Griffith Park Horticultural Learning Center, Los Angeles

An eleven acre site in Griffith Park (formerly the Commonwealth Nursery built in the 1920's and now defunct) is slated to become the Griffith Park Horticultural Learning Center. Clark & Karsh is doing the master planning for this site on behalf of the Los Angeles Parks Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to enhancing Los Angeles parks.

Clark & Karsh prepared a schematic design to support a State grant application for development of the Horticultural Learning Center. In addition to supplying plants for the 400+ park system, the Center will provide hands-on training in all aspects of horticulture, including: plant propagation, smart irrigation, rainwater capture and recycling, soil management, pest control, slope stabilization planting, and green roof installations.

The Clark & Karsh design addresses the program with offices, indoor and outdoor classrooms, display gallery, working and research greenhouses, areas for shade planting, soil management, maintenance vehicles and equipment, and supporting amenities.

Clark & Karsh is developing the design further as fundraising and programming progress.
